Course Overview
Laparoscopy Training Built for Gynaecology
Most laparoscopy training programmes are built around general surgery procedures. The Gynaecological Laparoscopy Programme at Abuja Laparoscopy Academy is different, it is built entirely around the procedures, anatomy, and clinical decision-making of gynaecological practice.
Over four days, O&G trainees and gynaecologists work through a structured programme covering diagnostic laparoscopy technique, laparoscopic myomectomy, ovarian cystectomy, tubal surgery, and hysteroscopy orientation. Every session is supervised by a gynaecological laparoscopy specialist with direct operative experience in these procedures.
With a maximum of six participants, each trainee benefits from a high ratio of hands-on simulator time to teaching time. You will complete a structured assessment on Day 4 and receive a gynaecology-specific certificate that directly supports your O&G postgraduate portfolio.
Who Should Attend
This Course Is Designed For
This course is tailored specifically to the O&G specialty. All participants should have a gynaecology or surgical background.
O&G Residents (Year 1–4)
Trainees across all years of O&G residency who need structured, supervised laparoscopy exposure as part of their postgraduate training development.
Practising Gynaecologists
Consultants and specialists who want to refresh, update, or add specific laparoscopic gynaecology procedures to their operative repertoire.
Fellowship Candidates
O&G doctors preparing for reproductive medicine, endoscopy, or gynaecological oncology fellowships who need documented laparoscopy training.
Final-Year O&G Students
Final-year medical students with a confirmed interest in O&G who want to begin building laparoscopy skills ahead of residency applications.
Subspecialty Trainees
Doctors training in reproductive endocrinology, fertility medicine, or urogynaecology where laparoscopic skills are directly relevant to practice.
Overseas O&G Graduates
Internationally trained gynaecologists seeking to demonstrate competency in laparoscopic procedures within the Nigerian O&G training framework.
Entry Requirements
Who Can Join This Programme
This programme requires an O&G or related surgical background. General prerequisites are listed below.
- A recognised medical degree with current enrolment in or completion of an O&G or surgical postgraduate programme
- Basic laparoscopy exposure is advantageous but not mandatory, we provide a pre-course orientation for those with limited prior experience
- Familiarity with gynaecological anatomy and common O&G operative indications (myomectomy, cystectomy, tubal ligation etc.)
- Confirmed attendance for the full 4-day duration, all four days build sequentially on each other
- Completed registration form submitted at least one week before the course start date
No prior laparoscopy? Contact us, we offer a short pre-course orientation session for O&G trainees who are new to laparoscopy, which can be combined with Day 1.

Learning Objectives
What You Will Be Able to Do
Every participant will demonstrate competency in these gynaecological laparoscopy skills by the end of Day 4.
Perform Diagnostic Laparoscopy Technique
Execute the key steps of a diagnostic laparoscopy including port insertion, systematic pelvic survey, and documentation of findings in a simulated environment.
Simulate Laparoscopic Myomectomy Steps
Work through the operative steps of laparoscopic myomectomy on a simulation model, including incision, enucleation, haemostasis, and closure.
Complete Ovarian Cystectomy Simulation
Demonstrate correct technique for laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy, cyst identification, plane development, enucleation, and ovarian reconstruction.
Execute Tubal Surgery Techniques
Perform simulation tasks for tubal sterilisation, salpingectomy, and salpingostomy, with correct instrument selection and technique for each procedure.
Apply Intracorporeal Suturing in O&G Context
Suture uterine defects and adnexal structures intracorporeally, using appropriate suture material selection and technique for gynaecological tissue.
Navigate Gynaecological Anatomy Laparoscopically
Correctly identify and navigate key pelvic structures, uterus, ovaries, tubes, ureter, and vascular landmarks in a simulated laparoscopic field.
Manage Common Gynaecological Complications
Recognise and describe management of complications specific to gynaecological laparoscopy: ureteric injury, vessel injury, and bowel complications.
Complete Gynaecological Structured Assessment
Pass a timed, observed gynaecological simulation assessment using an O&G-adapted OSATS instrument, achieving the required competency threshold.
